Amber’s executive team joins Cardiff’s CEO Sleepout

Earlier this month, members of Amber’s Executive Leadership Team took part in the CEO Sleepout, a nationwide initiative raising awareness and funds to combat homelessness.
25 business leaders from across Wales gathered at Cardiff Castle, making it an eye-opening experience that left a lasting impression.
Nick Proctor, AJ Walker, Leanne Cinderby, and Nick Richards all swapped their beds for sleeping bags and, together, showed solidarity with those who don’t have a safe place to sleep.
Sleeping under the stars
The night was a powerful opportunity to hear directly from those with lived experience of homelessness and to better understand the barriers they face, particularly when trying to re-enter the workplace.
Hosted by CEO Sleepout, the evening shed light on the challenges that often go unseen. The stories revealed just how many hurdles people face when seeking employment after experiencing homelessness – from stigma and lack of access to essentials, to rigid recruitment processes and limited workplace support.
They were reminded that simple, thoughtful changes in how businesses operate can restore dignity and open the door to opportunity.

Reflections from the Amber team
AJ Walker, Net Zero Director:
“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the location was dramatic and historic. I was amazed at the bravery from supporters of the Wallich and their shadow board, as well as the Choir With No Name. We were challenged, inspired and entertained in equal measure. Sleep was optional, being impacted was mandatory.”
Leanne Cinderby, Chief Operating Officer:
“It was a privilege to be invited to support such a worthwhile cause and sleeping under the stars in Cardiff Castle was quite an experience! We got to meet and connect with some truly inspiring characters who the charities have supported – that was what really made it for me.”
Nick Richards, Chief Financial and Commercial Officer:
“We were very lucky, with the safety of a fortified and historic ground, and a mild night, which is obviously not how the homeless deal daily with living. The evening we spent with the Wallich team was impactful, aided by the personal stories that the team were so brave to share. The night gave me new understanding of the varied reasons that cause homelessness, and the impact it can have on the individuals and the families they may have disconnected from.”
