Meet Alex Bannon, our Senior Energy Trading and Risk Manager
We’re thrilled to put the spotlight on Alex this week and congratulate him on his recent promotion to Senior Energy Trading and Risk Manager. We caught up with him to chat about his role, the challenges of managing energy risks, his Amber highlights, and life outside of the office.
How long have you been working at Amber?
“I started working at Amber in July 2023, so approaching 18 months now. I came here on the back of 3 years’ experience in public sector procurement and trading.”
What does a typical day for you look like Trading and Risk Team?
“The mornings typically begin with checking which direction the market has opened in, and assessing if there are any cost-saving opportunities or de-risking measures to be taken for our clients. The remainder of the morning usually consists of ensuring our market reports are sent over to clients, alongside the team getting together to catch up on client management or the wider Trading and Risk service.
Afternoons are always varied and tend to be the time I set aside for more long-term projects, market analysis, client-specific reporting, and supporting the wider team. It’s a good time to reach out to clients to discuss their positions, markets, and any developments on their end. This always ensures we are keeping in touch and managing their position in the best way possible.”
What’s the highlight of your time at Amber so far?
“The huge amount of progression and learning opportunities. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned in the past 18 months! There’s so much flexibility day-to-day and scope to improve or adapt existing processes. By being given the opportunity to innovate and take on creative projects, I’ve been able to develop my skills and exposure to different parts of the Trading function.
The general feeling in the team is that you can put your energy into areas that you are comfortable in and passionate about or go out of your comfort zone if you are seeking to develop your skills. Whatever your ambitions you will always be supported.”
What attracted you to Amber?
Even from an outside perspective, Amber is a fast-paced, progressive company with huge opportunities for growth. The culture is fantastic, everyone here is so friendly and always happy to help and support. Outside of the day-to-day benefits of the positive culture, there are also great staff benefits to ensure you’re well looked after both inside and outside of work.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to keep myself busy, spending time in the gym and keeping up with sports, as well as spending quality time with family and friends. As I live on the coast I love spending time on the beach in the summer.
Our Trading and Risk team is currently looking for a new team member. If you’d like to join Alex, and the rest of the team you can check out the vacancies here.
