What is Power2Africa?

Power2Africa is a non-profit organisation set up by Amber to identify and fund renewable energy projects in Africa, where the provision of technologies (e.g. solar panels, battery storage or computers) can improve lives and educational outcomes.
Leveraging our internal expertise and the financial muscle of our clients, Power2Africa has funded over 10 projects, raised over £100,000, and positively impacted the lives of hundreds of school children.
The organisation is one-hundred-percent volunteer-driven, with all the money we raise going towards making projects happen.
Our latest project
In 2023, Power2Africa joined forces with Upendo Junior School in Kiminini, Kenya, to address their issues of electricity access and power reliability.
The school historically relied on charitable funding and could only make intermittent pre-payments for costly electricity rates. As a result, the school used to endure frequent blackouts, hindering the education of their 400 school children.
Once the school made Power2Africa aware of their situation, we were able to raise £55,000 to fund a renewable energy project.
Thanks to the installation of solar panels, Upendo Junior School is now self-sustaining in terms of electricity, providing clean and reliable power – which can light up classrooms and ventilate facilities.
Professor Masibo Lumala, Upendo Junior School Founder and Director, said: “I’m really pleased that the solar power dream has come true at last. I can confirm that the installation was done expertly with minimal challenges. We are now powering our water without a problem.”
Passionate about what we do

Power2Africa Committee Chairperson, Jonathan Harries, is extremely proud of the work we have done over the last few years: “Funding and helping to deliver Power2Africa projects is immensely rewarding and impactful. In partnership with our clients, Amber has played its part in making a big difference to the lives of school children, in countries like Kenya, Malawi and, in the next few months, Ethiopia.”
“What does the future hold? In the next couple of months, we’ll be partnering with a well-known and respected charitable organisation to deliver another exciting renewable energy project – an addition to an already impressive list of projects.”
Committee Impact Lead, Sophie Mullins, reflects on the support we have offered to schools: “Through Power2Africa we have been able to support schools with access to green energy by bringing together multiple partners to enable successful future-proofed projects.”
