Sophie’s Journey…

For the third instalment of our International Women’s Day campaign we’ll be focusing on our Product Lead, Sophie Mullins’ career journey. Sophie has been a part of our team for nearly two years now and is huge part of what makes our commercial team so great.

Here’s Sophie’s story…

I thought I would go straight from school to university to a graduate scheme, but instead, I took most of the opportunities that came my way, even if they took me a bit off course from my original plan. I learnt so much from my placement year and developed skills I still use today, excel doesn’t scare me!

When my graduate applications didn’t go to plan, I fundraised and volunteered with Raleigh International and saw the impact of climate change. Then I came home and worked in schools and bars which was a great learning curve for my communication skills. By being flexible and not getting those “dream” graduate jobs, I was able to undertake my research in the circular economy, which lead me to meeting some inspirational people and writing so many words.

After completing my research I worked at an environmental consultancy managing proposals and commercial processes. I joined Amber in July 2022 as Senior Commercial Analyst, focusing on pricing and commercial agreements, more recently as Product Lead focusing on mapping product improvements and innovations, and supporting teams to communicate their service both internally and externally. One thing I’ve always done is ask for help when I’m stuck, and I will continue to do that throughout my career.

All of the jobs I’ve had have helped me in developing the skills I need for my “grown-up” job. You even learn from applying for the jobs you don’t get.

Don’t be disappointed if the plan doesn’t go to plan… squiggly is not bad!
